GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION
This intermediate-level course guides therapists about the biological, social and psychological complexities of old age and help them answer the question, "What does it take to live well into our hundreds?" Research indicates that only 30% of longevity is genetic. That means that 70% is mental and lifestyle. Solidly based on aging research and studies of vital centenarians, the course helps therapists learn practical strategies for helping their clients and themselves live longer, healthier and happier. The course addresses how and why Americans are living decades longer than their parents, four attitudes that foster living longer, healthier, and happier and thirty six beliefs that foster living longer, healthier and happier. The course is comprised of three chapters from Defy Aging by Michael Brickey, Ph.D., ABPP. Defy Aging has been featured on Oprah, CNN and the Voice of America. It was a finalist in Foreword magazine's Book of the Year Awards. It has been critically acclaimed by Dr. Bernie Siegel, Betty Friedan, Sam Keen, four past presidents of the American Psychological Association and Dr. Ronald Klatz, President of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
